Soludo’s Wife Makes History, Advocates for Healthy Living at National Association of Women Journalists Election

In a historic event, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, the wife of the Anambra State Governor, graced the election of new executives of the National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) in Anambra State. She is the first Governor’s wife in the state to attend a NAWOJ election.

The event marked the beginning of a new era for the union, with newly elected executives set to oversee the affairs of the union for the next three years.

During her address, Mrs. Soludo expressed her gratitude for being among the female journalists and emphasized the importance of working together for the betterment of the state.

She highlighted the significant achievements of the state government under her husband’s leadership within two years, noting that the government has accomplished much with lean resources and without borrowing.

Mrs. Soludo also spoke passionately about her “Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Crusade,” which she initiated 18 years ago. She stressed the importance of a healthy lifestyle, citing her personal experience of overcoming health challenges through healthy living.

She encouraged the journalists to practice healthy habits, such as regular exercise, proper hygiene, and knowledge of basic life emergencies.

Additionally, Mrs. Soludo expressed concern about the high usage of drugs among children in society and announced the establishment of pad banks in secondary schools, tertiary institutions, and NYSC camps to support girls during emergencies.

She also announced the launch of the free HPV vaccine next week, which aims to improve the health and well-being of the state’s residents.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State, Odogwu Emeka, expressed pride in Mrs. Soludo’s efforts to promote hope, health, and good living. He assured her that the male and female journalists in the state would support her activities in the best interest of Anambra State.

The Commissioner for Health and State Coordinator of the Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Crusade, Dr. Afam Obidike, revealed that the First Lady has already launched a free cervical screening program, which has screened over 15,000 people in the state.

The event concluded with Mrs. Soludo wishing the newly elected NAWOJ executives a successful tenure and assuring them of her support in all their activities.
