Anambra State First Lady, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, recently hosted a panel of esteemed healthcare professionals on her show, “Nonye’s Healthy Living Show,” to discuss natural strategies for treating and preventing cancers in women. The panel included Prof. Chiemelu Emegoakor, Dr. Chinyere Ukamaka Onubogu, Dr. Ifeoma Umeh, and Dr. Prisca Nwankwo.
The discussion highlighted the importance of early detection and screening in combating cancer. Notably, over 1,200 women recently underwent free breast ultrasound screening, and 11,000 women received free cervical cancer screening in the state. These initiatives aim to address financial barriers that often prevent women from accessing lifesaving tests.
Adopting a healthy lifestyle is critical in preventing cancers in women, according to the experts. They emphasized the significance of dietary choices, warning against processed and chemical-laden foods that can contribute to cancer development. Instead, they advocated for natural, whole foods.
Research has shown that certain medicinal plants have anti-cancer properties. These plants have been found to stop the growth of breast, cervical, colon, leukemia, liver, ovarian, and uterine cancer.
The initiative, Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo, remains committed to educating the public on healthy living and providing free screenings. Upcoming events include a Breast Cancer Awareness Walk on October 26, 2025, at Awka City Stadium, in collaboration with Pink Health Foundation.
Additionally, the initiative will visit breast cancer patients at Amaku Teaching General Hospital. The experts urged women to be vigilant about breast health, seeking medical attention if they notice any changes and adhering to recommended medical routine checks.
Early detection significantly increases the chances of surviving breast cancer. By emphasizing the importance of early detection and healthy lifestyles, Mrs. Soludo’s initiative aims to make a positive impact on women’s health in Anambra State.
Mrs. Soludo has been a strong advocate for cancer awareness and prevention. As a Cervical Cancer Ambassador, she has stressed the importance of early diagnosis and timely checks in beating cancer threats.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has also launched a cervical cancer screening and treatment project in Anambra State. The project aims to reduce the burden of cervical cancer in the country.
By working together, Mrs. Soludo’s initiative and healthcare experts can create a healthier future for women in Anambra State.
