Mrs. Nonye Soludo, wife of the Anambra State Governor and Founder of the Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo (HLWNS) Initiative, inaugurated a multifaceted wellness campaign, unveiling the “Healthy Living Garden” and Farmers Market alongside a weekly Saturday Workout session at the Anaocha Local Government Headquarters. The event harped on her advocacy for sustainable agriculture, organic diets, physical fitness, and environmental stewardship as pillars of community health.
Mrs. Soludo emphasized the critical role of household gardens in combating food insecurity and reducing reliance on market-bought vegetables. “Growing your own food is the simplest path to healthy living,” she stated, urging residents to embrace backyard farming. “Imagine the joy of waking up to a thriving garden filled with fresh, organic vegetables. Agriculture isn’t just a necessity—it’s a source of fulfillment and a solution to national food challenges.”
Addressing dietary habits, the Governor’s wife warned against chemically processed foods, linking them to rising health crises. “What you consume either heals or harms you. Our ancestors relied on natural diets, yet today, preventable diseases thrive. Return to organic choices—your body deserves better.”
Mrs. Soludo advocated for daily exercise, framing it as a non-negotiable health investment. “Thirty minutes of activity is just 2% of your day. Prioritize sweating out toxins—it’s a gift to your heart and body.” She also linked environmental practices to public health, criticizing poor waste management and unchecked erosion exacerbated by urban construction. “Covering every inch of land with concrete starves groundwater absorption. Revive green spaces and permeable surfaces to mitigate erosion, a menace we’ve collectively ignored.”
Highlighting sleep deprivation and substance abuse as mental health risks, Mrs. Soludo urged parents and youths to adopt healthier routines. “Children on phones until 3 a.m. cannot excel academically. Likewise, drug abuse destroys young minds. Let’s reclaim discipline and rest—7 to 8 hours of sleep is non-negotiable.”
Anaocha Mayor, Comrade Rome Ibekwe, lauded the Soludo administration’s infrastructural strides, including dual carriageways and revitalized primary healthcare centers (PHCs) across the LGA’s 19 wards. State Health Commissioner Dr. Afam Obidike, an Anaocha native, emphasized life-saving CPR training provided by the Red Cross and highlighted PHC upgrades featuring solar power, equipment, and clean water access.
The event drew cross-sector leaders, including Lady Oluchi Ibezim (Deputy Governor’s wife), Anaocha’s Deputy Mayor Barrister Peter Emene, Wife of the Mayor of Anaocha, Pharmacist Chidimma Ibekwe, APGA Chairman Anaocha, Chief Anthony Ugorji (Okigbo Mbem), State APGA Youth Leader, Dr. Tochukwu Obiadi, the Traditional Ruler of Akwaeze, Igwe Christopher Okpala, Councilors of Anaocha, All Anaocha Stakeholders, All Security Personnels, All Women Leaders, All Anaocha Youths, National Youth Service Corps, Red Cross Team and the Healthy Living Team. Their collective presence reinforced a unified commitment to HLWNS’s vision of a healthier, resilient Anambra.
