AWKA – The Wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, on Wednesday, offered a heartfelt message to Catholics and Anglicans across the state as they commenced the holy season of Lent, urging reflection, spiritual renewal, and acts of charity.
Marking the significance of Ash Wednesday, Mrs. Soludo harped on the themes of mortality, repentance, and divine grace. “Ash Wednesday teaches us the practicality of faith, forgiveness, and acceptance of our shortcomings as mere mortals made from dust. It reminds us of our mortality but gives us a renewed chance to seek forgiveness through recompense and sincere supplications,” she stated.
In her address, the Governor’s wife described Lent as a sacred period of introspection and devotion. “Today officially ushers us into the holy Season of Lent, which is a period of prayers, fasting, sobriety, and charity. As Christians, we’re, through this holy period, offered the grace of purity and love. Here’s another fair opportunity to live out the God in us through our words, purpose, and deeds,” she declared.
Mrs. Soludo encouraged believers to embrace the season as a time to deepen their spiritual commitments and embody Christian virtues. “Welcome to Lent. Stay blessed!” she concluded, infusing her message with a call to collective spiritual solidarity.
The Lenten season, observed by Catholics, Anglicans, and other Christian denominations, spans 40 days of fasting, prayer, and almsgiving, culminating in Easter celebrations. Mrs. Soludo’s message aligns with calls for unity and moral reflection during this period, in line with her ongoing advocacy for faith-based values in Anambra State.
The First Lady’s remarks have been widely shared across religious and community platforms, reinforcing her role as a moral voice in the state’s governance and spiritual life.
