Dr. Nonye Soludo, wife of the governor of Anambra State, marked the 2025 celebration of World Environment Day yesterday, emphasizing the theme “Beat Plastic Pollution.”

Her participation highlights the growing awareness and urgent call for action to protect the environment from the damaging effects of plastic waste and other environmental hazards.

In her address, Dr. Soludo stated, “Our environment is the closest bond we share with nature. How we treat it is really important. What we give it, it gives us back. As concerns rise on human negligence to the environment, which has caused so many harms to humanity and nature, we’re all called to action to review our attitudes toward the environment and save our planet from the growing climatic threats and environmental risks.”

She further urged individuals and communities to take concrete steps in addressing environmental issues, saying, “Today, as we join the global community to commemorate ‘World Environment Day,’ we’ve been called to take bold actions, drive practical advocacies, and support green solutions for the overall well being of our environment.”

Highlighting this year’s theme, #BeatPlasticPollution, Dr. Soludo encouraged everyone to adopt sustainable practices, raise awareness about biodiversity loss, and reduce air pollution and greenhouse gases.

She emphasized that reducing plastic waste is vital in safeguarding ecosystems, ensuring cleaner air, and mitigating climate change, ultimately contributing to a healthier planet.

Her call to action aligns with global efforts to promote environmental sustainability and stresses the need for collective responsibility in building a greener, more resilient future for generations to come.
