On June 14, 2025, the wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Nonye Soludo, commemorated World Blood Donor Day with a passionate call for voluntary blood donation, aligning with the global theme: “Give Blood, Give Hope.”

In a statement released to mark the occasion, Dr. Soludo emphasized the life-saving power of donating blood. “Blood donation costs you nothing, but it can mean so much to someone in need,” she said. “Donate blood today so that no one has to suffer from lack of blood.”

She encouraged citizens to cultivate a habit of voluntary donation, noting that consistent and safe blood supplies are critical to the health system, especially in emergencies, surgeries, and for patients with chronic conditions.

“Whenever you can, give blood, give hope. Together we save lives,” she added. “Every life saved as a result of your sacrifice is worth it. Be healthy, be willing and kind.” Her message was also shared across social media using hashtags such as #WorldBloodDonorDay, #GiveBlood, #SaveALife, and #HealthyLivingWithNonyeSoludo.

Dr. Soludo, a known advocate for public health and wellness in the state, used the occasion to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining good health to become eligible blood donors and to inspire a culture of compassion and responsibility.

The event drew responses from various health institutions, non-governmental organizations, and youth groups across Anambra State, many of whom echoed the First Lady’s message and pledged support for regular blood donation drives aimed at strengthening the state’s healthcare resilience.
