Mrs. Nonye Soludo, wife of the Anambra State Governor, has praised the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Anambra State Branch, for its innovative urban garden project. During a visit to the garden last week, Mrs. Soludo expressed excitement at the variety of crops cultivated on a small piece of land, highlighting its potential to address rising food costs, malnutrition, and unhealthy food choices.
According to her, “The varieties of crops on this small piece of land are enough to serve hundreds of households. This deliberate lucrative enterprise can go a long way in solving the current food challenges.”
Mrs. Soludo encouraged individuals to emulate the initiative, saying “Everyone can own a garden. Whether you’re planting in bags, buckets, crates, or on that little piece of land behind your house, you’ve taken a great deal of pressure off the food market.”
She reiterated the importance of personal gardens, urging citizens to “start off today” and cultivate their own gardens to contribute to food security and sustainability in the state.
