Anambra Governor’s Wife Nonye Soludo Launches Health Initiative and Menstrual Hygiene Support at College of Health Technology Obosi

In an event marking World Menstrual Hygiene Day, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, the First Lady of Anambra State, inaugurated the Healthy Living With Nonye Soludo (HLNWS) Club and set up a pad bank to support female students in emergency situations.

The inauguration took place at Anambra State College of Health Technology, Obosi.

Mrs. Soludo introduced the pad bank as a vital resource for female students in need, stating that any student can approach the HLNWS ambassadors to receive free pads. She emphasized the importance of maintaining a steady supply of pads in the pad banks across 222 secondary and tertiary schools in the state.

During her address, Mrs. Soludo also highlighted the significance of nutrition and physical fitness as integral components of a healthy lifestyle. She cautioned against the consumption of soft drinks and canned foods due to their chemical content. Mrs. Soludo encouraged the students to cultivate their own vegetables, citing the joy and health benefits of gardening.

In addition to her health advice, Mrs. Soludo shared information on emergency services, noting the availability of an ambulance service accessible through the number 112. She also emphasized the importance of hand washing to prevent the spread of bacteria and disease.

Earlier in his remarks, the Provost of Anambra State College of Health Technology, Mr. Daniel Ezeobi, expressed gratitude for the launch of the HLNWS club at the institution. He commended the First Lady’s initiative and assured support for the government’s efforts to improve health and education in the state.

On his part, the Commissioner for Health Dr Afam Obidike had special thanks for the Provost and Registrar of the school for accepting to become Ambassadors of HLWNS

The event also featured a drama and dance presentation by the students, focusing on menstrual hygiene. Mrs. Soludo generously donated funds to the school for the procurement of sports equipment.
