AWKA, ANAMBRA STATE – In a groundbreaking move to promote healthy living among students and communities, the wife of the Anambra State Governor, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, today inaugurated 100 Healthy Living School Club Ambassadors alongside the Community and School Garden Programme at the Post Primary Schools Service Commission (PPSSC) in Awka.
The event, organized under her initiative, Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo, marks a major expansion of her crusade to instill healthy habits across Anambra State.
In her powerful opening remarks, Mrs. Soludo reflected on the progress of her initiative, stating: “Over two years ago, the Healthy Living Crusade was launched with 200 Ambassadors. The results achieved have been critical to the success of this initiative, making it one of the most impactful movements in Nigeria. Your ideas have been inspiring, and I use this platform to thank all my ambassadors.”
She emphasized that her 19-year vision remains unchanged: “It’s still about making a difference by adopting healthy habits, improving lives, and helping humanity. Today marks another episode of that collective dream, driven by immense passion. I thank you for volunteering, and I look forward to the success that awaits each of us.”
Mrs. Soludo delivered a stark health warning, urging Nigerians to be mindful of their diets: “Living right does not cost a fortune! It’s about simple, deliberate habits. You are what you eat. If you don’t understand what goes into your mouth, your body won’t. Whatever you consume is either healing or harming you. When you drink these fizzy drinks, most of them are killing you!”
She charged the newly inaugurated ambassadors to teach children healthy habits early, declaring: “We want to build an army of healthy living enthusiasts! Our goal is for every child in Anambra to be part of this movement, but the momentum must begin with you.”
Mrs. Soludo handed a renewed mandate to the ambassadors and school principals, stating: “You have been called up for something historic, a brand you must carry with pride! As Teacher-Ambassadors, your job is to groom students according to our standards. The club manual will guide you, and reports will track your progress.”
She urged principals to support the program fully, warning: “The success or failure of this initiative in your schools rests in your hands!”
In a major announcement, Mrs. Soludo revealed plans to establish Pad Banks in secondary schools with high female populations. “We are designating pad banks in schools, with ambassadors overseeing them. This first phase covers 100 schools, with more to follow. We expect nothing short of excellence!”
The event drew high-profile commendations from Prof. Nkechi Ikediugwu, Chairman of PPSSC, who praised Mrs. Soludo for integrating health and education.
Also, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, Commissioner for Education, hailed her humility and dedication, stating: “Behind Governor Soludo’s greatness is another great masquerade, his wife. WhileDr. Afam Obidike, Commissioner for Health, outlined plans for monthly monitoring of pad bank usage in schools.
