Mrs. Soludo Leads Charge Against Polio in Anambra

The fight against polio has gained momentum in Anambra State, thanks to the efforts of Mrs. Nonye Soludo, the wife of the state governor. She emphasized the devastating impact of poliomyelitis on individuals, families, and caregivers, stressing the need for collective action to defeat the disease.

Polio, a highly infectious viral disease, primarily affects children under 5 years old and can cause permanent paralysis. The virus spreads through the fecal-oral route or contaminated water and food.

Mrs. Soludo’s initiative, Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo, has already made strides in promoting health and hygiene in the state. Recently, she launched Sanitary Pad Banks in over 400 secondary schools to support menstrual hygiene.

Now, she’s focusing on polio eradication, emphasizing vaccination as the first crucial step. With the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, launched in 1988, polio cases have decreased by 99% worldwide.

Anambra State has taken a bold walk towards keeping polio at zero, and Mrs. Soludo urges everyone to join forces to ensure every child is vaccinated.
