AWKA, Nigeria — The Women’s Initiative for Greater Anambra (WIGA), in partnership with Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo (HLWNS), convened a Mother’s Wellness Summit under the theme “Mother’s Wellbeing: The Pillar of Every Home” at the Dora Akunyili Women’s Development Centre in Awka. The event highlighted maternal health, community solidarity, and advocacy for sustainable governance.
Anambra First Lady Mrs. Nonye Soludo commended WIGA for its pivotal role in mobilizing support during her husband’s gubernatorial campaign, praising the group’s convener, Mrs. Amaka Obi, for her leadership. She emphasized the importance of child immunization, noting that the service is free across Anambra.
Addressing modern parenting challenges, Mrs. Soludo urged mothers to prioritize their health: “To effectively care for your children, you must be healthy. Today’s parenting is tougher—social media influences children alongside us. The tasks are immense, but we must persist.” She called for communal vigilance, advising mothers to alert neighbors if they observe youth engaging in harmful behavior, stressing that “inaction today could harm us all tomorrow.”
Highlighting the state’s “Farm to Feed” initiative, Mrs. Soludo revealed that HLWNS has distributed over 10,000 seedlings to encourage household gardening. She showcased her own office garden, filled with tomatoes, peppers, and vegetables, as a model for natural living.
Mrs. Soludo warned against processed foods, citing a doctor’s experiment where noodles lingered undigested in the body for hours. “Return to natural foods. Avoid chemicals in packaged items—always check labels,” she urged. She also advocated daily exercise, suggesting 20 minutes of dancing or sweating to boost energy.
Also speaking, Idemili South Mayor and WIGA Convener Mrs. Amaka Obi rallied women to support Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s re-election, citing infrastructure, health, and education advancements. “This isn’t just about Soludo—it’s about our children’s future. His achievements speak for themselves,” she stated. She urged prayers for the administration’s success, affirming that “God answers women’s prayers swiftly.”
Keynote speaker Prof. Joseph Adinma, Emeritus Professor of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, lauded Mrs. Soludo’s impact on women’s health. He promoted annual medical check-ups, citing an 80% reduction in sudden deaths via wellness clinics in Zimbabwe and Malawi.
Addressing mental health, Prof. Adinma cautioned against overthinking: “Happiness is vital. Prioritize yourself to care for your family.” He advised pregnant women to treat pregnancies as “projects,” ensuring access to antenatal care and emergency contacts.
