Nonye Soludo, wife of the Anambra State Governor, recently spearheaded two initiatives aimed at promoting healthy living habits among secondary school students.
Mrs. Soludo inaugurated the “Healthy Living Secondary School Ambassadors” at Asubeb Hall, Awka. These ambassadors will be responsible for promoting healthy living principles among their peers.
She stressed the importance of the ambassadors’ roles, urging them to “carry this duty with commitment.” She emphasized the need for them to use the provided club manual as a daily guide and represent the program with “excellence, character, and pride.” She expressed her confidence in their abilities, stating, “I know you will do very well.”
The Governor’s wife highlighted the significance of starting these initiatives early. “We formed the Healthy Living Club in primary schools to get them young,” she explained. “When they get a grasp of it, they will never depart from it when they grow older.”
The First Lady also addressed the distribution of “Healthy Living bank pads” to secondary school girls. Additionally, she launched the “Healthy Living Garden Competition,” promoting organic farming practices without fertilizers or chemicals. Seedlings for watermelons, potatoes, carrots, and other vegetables will be provided to schools for this competition.
Mrs. Soludo emphasized that these initiatives, including the garden competition, aim to “teach students how to do things the healthy way,” ultimately fostering a culture of healthy living among Anambra’s youth.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, emphasized the importance of monitoring and evaluating the Ambassadors to ensure the club thrives in secondary schools.
