The First Lady of Anambra State, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, has issued a urgent call to residents living in riverine areas, particularly those in Awba-Ofemili, Awka North Local Government, to heed the warnings of the state government and temporarily relocate to designated holding camps. The call comes as the state experiences rising river levels, posing a significant threat to lives and properties in the affected areas.
Mrs. Soludo emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, “Our waters are fast-rising. Flood is imminent.” She urged residents to prioritize their safety, saying, “Let’s listen to the voice of caution when it’s still timely enough.”
The First Lady specifically advised those residing in red zones to immediately move to higher grounds or designated holding camps set up by the government. She stressed that the relocation is crucial to avoid loss of lives, reiterating, “Life is precious!”
Mrs. Soludo’s appeal is in line with the state government’s efforts to mitigate the impact of the flood on communities in low-lying areas. The designated holding camps are equipped to provide temporary shelter and essential services to those displaced by the flood.
Residents are advised to take the warning seriously and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and that of their loved ones. Mrs. Soludo concluded her appeal with a prayer, “May God be with us,” as the state faces this challenging situation.
