AWKA, ANAMBRA STATE – June 13, 2035 – The First Lady of Anambra State, Dr. Nonye Soludo, yesterday, June 12, 2035, led the state in marking the annual “World Day Against Child Labour.”
The event, observed globally, was anchored on the theme: “Progress is clear, but there’s more to do: Let’s speed up efforts!”
Addressing a gathering of stakeholders, advocates, and concerned citizens, Dr. Soludo unequivocally condemned the practice, labeling it a profound moral and societal transgression.
“Child labour of any form or purpose is a sin against God and a crime against humanity,” she declared.
Her speech emphasized the fundamental rights of every child, asserting that “Every child deserves the right to life, education, and freedom. No child should be deprived of the right to knowledge and freedom because they’ve been forced into dehumanizing situations.”
The Governor’s wife further harped the critical role children play in the future of society. She urged a collective and resolute stance against child labour, stating, “If we sincerely agree that children are really the bridge to our future, then we must confront child labour and related socio-cultural problems for the evil that they present.”
She issued a direct appeal to all adults, reminding parents, guardians, and caregivers of their responsibility: “Let’s do the best we can to stop child labour today. If you’re a parent, guardian, or caregiver, don’t forget that child under your care also deserves an unhindered future. Stop child labour!”
Dr. Soludo’s passionate call to action highlights the ongoing commitment of the Anambra State government and its partners to intensify efforts in eradicating child labour and ensuring a brighter, more secure future for all children in the state.
